Accreditation Overview

Lassen Community College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), 428 J Street, Suite 400I, Sacramento, CA 95814, (415) 506-0234. ACCJC is an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education as a reliable authority regarding the quality of education offered by the institutions accredited in keeping with the Higher Education Act of 1965. On November 8, 2022, the Commission conducted an on-site visit to review the Peer Review Team’s Follow Up Report. The visit was to review the deficiencies identified in the January 27, 2021 Action Letter, determine if the College addressed them appropriately and created necessary changes to meet the standards.  The Commission found that Lassen Community College addressed the compliance requirements, corrected deficiencies, and meets ACCJC Standards.

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges met on January 11-12, 2023 and acted to reaffirm Lassen College’s accreditation for the remainder of the cycle.  The next report, Midterm Report, was due on March 15, 2024. The Commission met on June 5-6, 2024, reviewed the Midterm Report and related evidence and determined the institution’s progress is appropriate and has accepted the Report.  The Commission expressed “appreciation for the diligent work and thoughtful reflection that Lassen Community College undertook to respond to these requirements.”

Lassen College’s next comprehensive review began in 2026. LCC submitted its Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) in Summer 2026.  The ACCJC Peer Review Team will complete its review in October 2026, followed by and on-site visit in March 2027.

ACCJC is inviting faculty, staff, students, board members, members of the public, and other stakeholders to submit third-party comments regarding LCC’s ACCJC review. Third-party comments assist the Commission in its review process and provide information concerning LCC’s ability to meet ACCJC Eligibility Requirements and Standards.  Please proceed to ACCJC’s site for Third Part Comments.

Accreditation is the primary means by which colleges in the United States assure and improve quality. Colleges must apply for reaffirmation of ac​cred​itation every six years. The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/W​ASC), as overseen by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE), takes actions on accreditation status for the California Community Colleges. The accreditation process focuses on self-evaluation, peer review, and quality improvement.​​
