Black History Month Celebration

LASSEN COLLEGE FOUNDATION PLANS FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION
Louis Price and Kenney Polson to Return on Feb. 15 for Annual Benefit Concert

January 29, 2018 -- The Lassen College Foundation (Foundation) announced it will host the annual Smooth Jazz, Gospel and Rhythm and Blues concert to honor Black History Month at the Sports Complex of the College from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm on February 15. Doors will open at 6 pm.

The concert has been a huge success in the past. Last year's concert, featuring vocalist Louis Price, formerly of the Temptations and The Drifters, and musician Kenny Polson, smashed previous attendance and fundraising numbers. The event offers an opportunity for the community to celebrate and honor the contributions of African-Americans through live music, dancing and storytelling. The venue is designed to provide an intimate setting to further complement the sounds and talents of these international artists, the concert will also feature performances by local singers and musicians.

"Our goal is three-fold; provide a unique entertainment experience for the community, while celebrating Black History Month and raising awareness of and contributions to the Lassen College Foundation," said Marlon Hall, Ed.D, Superintendent/President of Lassen College. "Every year, we change up the format and it's always so well received. Kenney and Louis perform these annual concerts for us for free, allowing the College the ability to bring in big name entertainers."

In addition to music and dancing, there will be light food available for purchase as well as a no-host bar provided by the Sunrise Rotary. General admission tickets are $30. Students with school ID can attend for a $5 donation. VIP packages are also available for $500 and include up to eight tickets, table service, meet-and-greet, and the chance to win a VIP-inspired prize.

For more information about the event or if you are interested in becoming an event sponsor, contact Dr Marlon Hall at 530-251-8820.
