ART 186 Ceramics for Older Adults

A beginning course in ceramics exploring basic hand building and wheel throwing techniques. Basic methods of forming, decorating, glazing and firing ceramic materials will be covered. The elements and principles of ceramics will be presented from historical, cultural, aesthetic, and technical points of view. This course is designed to assist older adults in identifying and examining personal interests and aptitudes in ceramics and to enhance mental acuity, fine motor skills, and creativity as well as the appreciation of the visual arts. To cover the cost of glazes, a $10.00 material fee will be charged at the time of enrollment.
