Athletics Department

Lassen Community College supports the theory that athletics makes an important contribution to the quality of the educational experience. We strive to produce teams that students, staff and community will consistently come to watch and cheer with pride. Yet, ultimately we recognize our primary contribution as educators of young student athletes is to ensure we attend to meeting their academic, health, security and personal needs first and foremost. Our hope is we coach them well... enough to recognize and fulfill some of their goals and dreams in life.

The college participates in a well-rounded program of intercollegiate athletics. Cougar teams compete in basketball, wrestling, baseball, volleyball, soccer and softball.

Lassen Community College is a member of the Golden Valley and Bay Valley Conference that operates under the direction of the Commission on Athletics of the California Association of Community Colleges.

All athletes at Lassen Community College are covered by insurance and must have physical examinations before participating in sports.

Lassen Community College adheres to the California State Athletic Code and the Golden Valley Conference eligibility rules and regulations. Final decisions rest with the Golden Valley Conference Commissioner or the California State Athletic Committee.

Eligibility Criteria

1. No student shall represent the college in any athletic contest unless the student is enrolled in twelve units or more of work in regular or special courses as defined in the Lassen College curricula.
2. In meeting the units-of-work requirement, a student may repeat a course the student has failed, but those courses that have been completed with passing marks may not be repeated and will be included in meeting this requirement.
3. In order to be eligible for a second sport, a student who has previously participated must have completed at lease twelve units of work in the last term or semester of attendance. To be eligible for the second season of sport, the student athlete must complete and pass 24 semester units between seasons of competition.
