Lassen Community College owns and operates a ski area located just west of Susanville. Coppervale has eight trails of various skill levels, a face, forest runs, a bowl, a newly created terrain park, and a half-pipe. Our slopes are groomed to accommodate less advanced skiers and snowboarders. Popular activities include: downhill, cross-country and Nordic skiing, as well as snowboarding.
History
Established in the 1940's as a club by citizens of Westwood and Susanville. The original lift was a rope tow run off the rear wheels of a car chained on the top of the mountain. The first person up in the morning hiked up with gas and started the engine.
Lassen College took over the ski hill in the 1960's and started the 1st official ski classes. The rope tow engine was moved to the bottom of the hill and refitted with a new engine and other modifications.
In 1977 the Poma lift was installed to provide service to the summit, where skiers have access to over 700 feet of vertical drop.
