Welcome New Lassen Cougar Head Coach Bukasa
Athletic Director John Jones announced that Dominique Bukasa who has spent the last three seasons coaching NCAA Division I as an assistant at Sacramento State University, has been named the new Lassen College's head men's basketball coach.
During his time at Sacramento State, Bukasa played an instrumental role in a massive rebuilding project under the guidance of former Lassen and Junior College Hall of Fame head coach Brian Katz. He helped put the Hornets on the right track to compete athletically and solidify their academic standing. Bukasa's duties included recruiting, scouting, player development, academic mentor and scheduling.
“I am very honored and grateful to have been selected as the next head coach at Lassen College, and it is with great diligence and enthusiasm that my staff and I will work to build an exciting team that the community can cheer for and be proud of,” said Bukasa.
Prior to Sacramento State, Bukasa experienced a very successful period coaching in Junior College. During his three seasons as an assistant coach for Ed Madec (Siskiyous 2005-06, Fresno City 2006-2008), his teams combined to post a 87-21 overall record, two league titles, two Final 8 appearances and captured the 2007 CCCA State Championship Title.
“Dominique brings a lot of valuable experience with him that he can pass on to his players and his staff. He knows exactly what it takes to compete at this level. He’s a good recruiter and evaluator of talent but what makes him special is his ability to teach and motivate” said Ed Madec of his former assistant.
Coach Bukasa believes that Lassen College offers a great opportunity for young people to improve, grow and prepares them for the next chapter in their lives both academically and athletically. He said “There are a lot of resources here that student athletes can take advantage of to help them succeed. Our coaching staff, faculty and administration are completely dedicated to prepare all our student athletes to excel in the classroom and compete on the court after graduating from Lassen College.”
