Application for Graduation

A candidate for the Associate Degree or a special certificate should complete a "Petition for Graduation Evaluation" on or before the fourth week of the semester of graduation and must have their program approved by the evaluation counselor. Petitions are located in the counseling office.

Exit Counseling

Make sure to complete your exit counseling requirement. Everyone involved with the student loan program wants to make sure that you understand your rights and responsibilities. Also, it's a federal requirement for anyone receiving Title IV (Stafford student loan) funds. Ask the financial aid office for exit counseling requirements. Your requirement may be fulfilled in person or online using EDTEST.

The Grace Period

After you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment, you are entitled to one grace period. This may be six to nine months depending on the type of loan you receive. Whether or not you'll be required to pay interest during this period depends on whether you have subsidized or unsubsidized loans. For subsidized loans, the federal government pays your interest during your grace period. For unsubsidized loans, you are responsible for paying the interest during the grace period. Monthly payments begin the day after your grace period ends, with your first payment due within 45 days.

Moving?

Be sure you notify all your lenders/holders, in writing, within 10 days of any changes in your address, telephone number or enrollment status. It's critical for your lender to be able to contact you with important loan information. If you do not keep your lender informed, you may encounter significant problems down the line.

Need Assistance?

Contact your lender or guaranty agency to find out your options if you're having difficulty making your student loan payments. If you default on your student loan there are other more serious consequences.
