Campus Closure

As part of the continuing effort to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all members of the campus community, the Lassen Community College (LCC)  campus is closed to the public until further notice. This includes all indoor and outdoor recreational facilities (track, soccer fields, etc.).

Only those personnel who have been designated by the college as essential to college operations are permitted on campus. Other faculty, staff, or community members that need to come on to campus must first be personally cleared through the office of the Superintendent/President.

These measures will help to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of our campus community, and will also help to ensure the success of our many Spring 2020 classes that continue via remote learning methodologies. As a member of the LCC community, your cooperation in this issue is greatly appreciated.

Please direct any questions or inquiries to the LCC Public Information Office at (530) 251-8820

Governor Gavin Newsom Executive Order

The order is effective immediately and will apply through May 31, 2020

Builds on the Governor's previous executive action authorizing local governments to

 halt evictions

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order banning the enforcement of eviction orders for renters affected by COVID-19 through May 31, 2020. The order prohibits landlords from evicting tenants for nonpayment of rent and prohibits enforcement of evictions by law enforcement or courts. It also requires tenants to declare in writing, no more than seven days after the rent comes due, that the tenant cannot pay all or part of their rent due to COVID-19.

The tenant would be required to retain documentation but not required to submit it to the landlord in advance. And the tenant would remain obligated to repay full rent in a timely manner and could still face eviction after the enforcement moratorium is lifted. The order takes effect immediately, and provides immediate relief to tenants for whom rent is due on April 1st.

Today's action builds on Governor Newsom's previous executive order authorizing local governments to halt evictions for renters impacted by the pandemic.

A copy of the Governor's executive order can be found here and the text of the order can also be found here.

Graduation

Postponement of the LCC Spring 2020 Commencement Ceremony

Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, the Lassen Community College Commencement ceremony previously scheduled for May 22nd, 2020 has been postponed until further notice. This is not a decision that was taken lightly, but was neccesary to ensure the safety of our students and our campus community.

Many colleges and universities across the country are choosing to simply cancel their commencement ceremonies. Lassen College does not agree with this action, and we feel that to do this would unfairly deprive our graduating students of a once in a lifetime memory that they have worked so very hard to earn.

We are therefore determined to not allow current circumnstances to stop us from appropriately celebrating the outstanding achievements of our students—they deserve a commencement, and they will have one. Unfortunately, current circumstances will not allow this to happen until sometime after this May. We will reschedule this ceremony to a future date once circumstances improve, and will widely communicate the new commencement date when appropriate.

Tutoring

LCC Students find that getting on Zoom is easy and the tutoring sessions are very helpful.  You can access via phone if you do not have internet.  If you don't have a camera on your device, that's okay.  If you do have a camera and don't want to be on video, that's ok too.  Student feedback indicates that at first some students are anxious about using Zoom, but once they click the link to a Zoom meeting, it's easy to navigate and very intuitive.

  • Students interested in receiving one-on one Zoom tutoring should contact Meggin @ (530) 430-7226 to set up sessions.
  • Zoom drop-in tutoring is available for Math 40 and Math 8.  No need to schedule an appointment and no invite necessary, just click on link during the day/time it is happening:

Thursdays Math 40 (Tutor Cole)-Thursdays 11am to 1 pm.

Meeting link https://cccconfer.zoom.us/j/179277505

Mondays and Wednesdays Math 8 (Tutor Cole) 2 pm-3 pm.

NetTutor-it's in Canvas.

Find "NetTutor" listed in the course navigation within your Canvas course. (Note-You have to go into your canvas course).  Click the link to open your NetTutor Tutoring Home Page.  If NetTutor is not listed in the course navigation within your Canvas course, please call the LCC Learning Center.

We know that not being able to come on campus to seek academic support can make things even more stressful during times like these. We appreciate the patience you've already shown during this time of remote learning.  Please know that you can always connect with the Learning Center by phone: (530) 430-7226 or by email: mlewman@lassencollege.edu.
