Unlawful Discrimination Policy

Nondiscrimination

It is the policy of the District to provide an environment free of unlawful discrimination.  The District is committed to equal opportunity in educational programs, employment, and access to institutional programs and activities. 

The District, and each individual who represents the District, shall provide access to its services, classes, and programs without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, sexual orientation, or because he or she is perceived to have one or more of the foregoing characteristics, or based on association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics. 

The District forbids and will not tolerate any form of discrimination and has enacted administrative procedures to assure equal opportunity and to recognize and eliminate violations of this policy in accordance with Title 5 regulations and those of other agencies that administer state and federal laws regarding nondiscrimination.  It is both illegal and prohibited by this policy to retaliate against any individual for filing a complaint or participating in an investigation. 

The Superintendent/President shall establish administrative procedures that ensure all members of the college community can present complaints regarding alleged violations of this policy and have their complaints heard in accordance with the Title 5 regulations and those of other agencies that administer state and federal laws regarding nondiscrimination. 

Compliance Statement

The Lassen Community College District complies with the California Education Code, Title V of the California Code of Regulations, all pertinent titles and sections of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX regulations, the Education Amendments of 1972, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, The American with Disabilities Act, and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Designation of Title IX Coordinator

The Human Resources Director, Kristin Gilman, is the District's Title IX Coordinator.

What To Do If You Believe You Have Been Subjected to Discrimination

A person who believes that he/she has been subjected to discrimination including sexual harassment at the Lassen Community College District may obtain a copy of the District's Unlawful Discrimination Complaint Resolution Procedures at the Human Resources Office, Business Office. Students may also obtain a copy of the procedures at the Student Services Building.

The District provides both informal and formal complaint resolution procedures. The District is committed to ensuring that persons complaining of discrimination including sexual harassment will not be subject to retaliation of any kind.

Please note: The District may return without action any complaints that are inadequate because they do not state a clear violation of the EEO regulations. All returned complaints must include a District statement of the reason for returning the complaint without action.
